I'm 16 and I dunks!?
So far I'm about 5'10 "with shoes. I'll probably grow by about 6 feet minimum. Anyway, I weigh 155 pounds. I am aiming to lose about 10-12 lbs jump roping (they are not muscle, it's fat). Do you lose the weight to help with my vertical jump roping jump? For dipping are the exercises I do every other day: -200 calves (With a sports machine) -200 squats (machine sports too) -50 ^ routine explosive good jumps? I'm about 3 inches away from touching the board. Since I can jump high, How long do you think it would take before I can touch the rim or dunk? Thank you (serious answers only please).
You need to hit at least 6 inches above the rim to dunk. In other words, you still have almost another foot to go. I do not know if the weight will help. Jump capacity comes from fast-twitch muscles, not bulky, muscle endurance built from bodybuilding. If you look at some of the best jumpers in the NBA – Michael Jordan and Vince Carter – they have skinny chicken legs. The key to high jump is developing explosive leg power. Instead of doing squats, do more series of jumps squat. This is where you look in a squatting position and then explode upward as high as possible. Another exercise that I recommend is a sprint uphill. When I was 14, 5'10 ", I was able to cling to the rim with a hand that was not enough to dunk. I joined the track team later this spring, and our coach made us sprint up 20-30 times daily until we vomit. After a few months longer than the leg exercises to strengthen others, I added maybe 6 inches to my vertical and could finally dunk. Good luck.
